Thanks for stopping by and reading my musing! I appreciate it very much!
Taking care of my skin has always been an interest of mine — I think partly because I am a woman and partly because maybe I am also a victim subconsciously of today’s age – vanity, vain, worldly & materialism. I couldn’t be sure! I hope not!!! I refuse the latter. Consciously – it is simply taking care of myself – increasing the quality of life – I think this is what most women have in mind! Right?
When did I switch from using harmful chemically laden skin care to the natural alternative?
I switched from using mainstream mass produced skin care products way back in 2008 when I met my hubby. He strongly influenced me to go natural especially that I am part of the healthcare professionals being a Pharmacist. Since then, I am now an avid natural product promoter and user from household products, personal care products and amongst many things – more so now since joining the Summit. It was never easy you know because for over 25 years of my life – I have used what most have used – mass produced skin care products. Brain is too hard to bend and change. But then, I reasoned out – okay, fine – as long as you – my hubby – don’t complain about my skin being rough and scaly – no problem! Really it was hard.. but then I started turning to what is available in our kitchen such as lemon, coconut oil, honey, coffee bean granules, olive oil. fruits and others.. so I started making my own skin care products because I had the time… which also works… as you can see at my before & after photo. My skin before photo is also clear but…
How natural am I? I am this avid natural user that we order our natural toothpaste and bio-wash ball from NZ. We also use grated coconut soap to wash our clothes & our hands. We still have yet to find dishwashing that is natural.. Do you guys have any suggestions? We also take natural supplements such as Echinacea when we are feeling run down. We take fish oil, milk thistle, spirulina, vit. c tab a day if no orange/kiwi/grapefruit available on a daily basis… I have never felt healthier, lighter and feeling less aggressive and importantly less sickly. I have never felt so close to nature. But don’t take me wrong I still have my other poison on a weekly basis and I still take medicines when I have to. Many others may think that to be natural is boring and is expensive. Actually, it is quite the opposite from my point of view and experience. Opens up the whole world for you. It’s Fun, more savings & Healthy. Why more savings? Because when you are into natural – you will get sick less. When health is compromised it is expensive. I still find Prevention is better than cure is the way to go for me & my home & hopefully many of my family and friends will also find it best in keeping health at best.
When I joined The Summit Team early this year – the date on my before photo 12th January 2015, my skin was also clear but because I was joining a Natural Skin care company, it’s only prudent to use The Summit products – I didn’t use the Island Beauty Daily Ritual pack nor the polish and mask at first because I am not very good with following any routine. In the beginning, I only used Sandalwood & Ylang Ylang Body Foam, Purely You soap, Coconut Body & Bathe Oil as my face & body moisturiser, sandalwood hydrosol as my facial & body cleanser until 27th May 2015. You probably didn’t notice me posting anything about me or musing my face as much as I have now during those times because I didn’t see much improvement. I wasn’t confident enough doing selfies even after 3 months of using those…
So, What made me switch to using the Island Beauty Daily Ritual pack, polish & mask? I made the decision to try the routine when I saw our Miss Vanuatu Valerie Martinez skin transformation.. wow! so I said to myself — hmmmm okay — so that must be the secret — daily routine — cleanse – tone – moisturise — weekly – add polish & mask to daily – why don’t I try it and really make time & effort to do it since products are within my reach… So I bought the pack, the polish & the mask, made the time & effort and started using on the 27th May. I have never been happier as you can see the difference on my before & after photo. I hope you do see and notice the difference but even if you don’t see it I know that my skin is absolutely clearer, moisturised, healthy looking & young looking – and looks like I have foundation on!! This is what i kept telling my GM Lesley Batty. I will share more stories about coconut oil next time…
However, if you have the time to make your DIY skin care products – go for it because not only that it is also safe and you know what’s in it, it’s natural – if you’re using natural ingredients… now make sure to have a cleanser – a toner – moisturiser – exfoliant/polish and a mask. You will still spend some money to make up your own… so why don’t you compare the price of your own creation with the price of The Summits pack, polish & mask add the time you used to make your product, plus the cost of the container & the jar… See the difference — if you see a big price difference and if you’re happy with your skin texture and skin look and you are happy with how you feel using your own… then stay there… but if you are busy and wished to have a clearer, healthier, moisturised skin and not really have much time to make your own… The Summit could be your answer… Give it a try as I did… If you are not in Vanuatu – not to worry because we ship worldwide with FREE Shipping if you order above A$100. It only takes about 5 to 7 days to Australia, New Zealand and some parts of Asia. About 14 days to the UK and to USA. If you are in Vanuatu – you can find the full range at our Flagship Shop at Tanna Coffee.

A handful of the most hazardous chemicals found in many personal care products and cosmetics include:
- Paraben, a chemical found in deodorants, lotion, hair products, and cosmetics, has been shown to mimic the action of the female hormone estrogen, which can drive the growth of human breast tumors. A study published in 2012 suggested that parabens from antiperspirants and other cosmetics indeed appear to increase your risk of breast cancer.10
The research looked at where breast tumors were appearing and determined that higher concentrations of parabens were found in the upper quadrants of the breast and axillary area, where antiperspirants are usually applied.
- Sodium lauryl sulfate, a surfactant, detergent, and emulsifier used in thousands of cosmetic products, as well as in industrial cleaners. It’s present in nearly all shampoos, scalp treatments, hair color and bleaching agents, toothpastes, body washes and cleansers, make-up foundations, liquid hand soaps, laundry detergents, and bath oils/bath salts.
The real problem with SLES/SLS is that the manufacturing process (ethoxylation) results in SLES/SLS being contaminated with 1,4 dioxane, a carcinogenic by-product.
- Phthalates are plasticizing ingredients that have been linked to birth defects in the reproductive system of boys and lower sperm-motility in adult men, among other problems. Be aware that phthalates are often hidden on shampoo labels under the generic term “fragrance.”
- Methylisothiazolinone (MIT), a chemical used in shampoo to prevent bacteria from developing, which may have detrimental effects on your nervous system.
- Toluene, made from petroleum or coal tar, and found in most synthetic fragrances and nail polish. Chronic exposure linked to anemia, lowered blood cell count, liver or kidney damage, and may affect a developing fetus.
Why take the risk with mass produced skin care products when pure natural beneficial alternative is within your reach and is now available to ship to you wherever you are?
You will also be happy as I am now with the result. Many of our Gorgeous customers are also saying that The Summit products works for them too but some of them – almost all of them actually are those who are shy to post and to share their feedback.
